Relationship Repair – Step #2

Name The Emotion – If you or your partner are stuck in facts and figures, accusations or debates, either one at any moment can shift and name the emotions. For example, if Janet was frustrated when she came home and found and empty house and she was expecting Andrew to be there, Andrew can say, “You seem angry that I wasn’t home when you got here” or Janet can say, “I know I have been telling you all the things you did wrong, but what I really mean is that I feel alone when I think you are going to be home and you aren’t.” Just dropping in and naming the emotion often begins the process of repair.
